Portuguese Inspired New England Shoreline Wedding... Pedro and Jennifer

I had the opportunity to collaborate on a really special wedding this summer with Jennifer and Pedro, who were planning their wedding from Portugal. This was my first experience in communicating via Skype, and besides coordinating times when we were both awake, it never felt that like they were that far away.

The color palette we chose helped to combine the bold colors of the Portuguese tiles and the warmth of the sunset and the shoreline community in Mystic and bright color of lobsters. Was the perfect blend of details to make it unique to both of them, true to their culture and tradition, and an event guests would always remember.

Some of my favorite details from this wedding.

1. Rice Paper votive holders from Luna Bazaar, will be used as individual vases filled with white flowers on the tables that guests will take as their favor at the end of the night.

2. Lighting: a mix of silk lanterns from Om Gallery and Paper Stars will glow throughout the rafters of the boat shed.

3. Personalized Lobster Bibs, with their names and date stamped by the bride will be at each place setting.

4. Natural Burlap Runners will accent the tables giving texture to the white linens, and cobalt blue chargers will be reflective of a Portuguese Tile.

Portugal Inspired, New England Lobster Bake Wedding

I started working with miss Jennifer about 6 months ago when she contacted me to see if I would be available to help her design and coordinate her wedding at the Mystic Seaport. It was the first client that I have had that I never met throughout the process. We planned everything remotely while she was living in Portugal. It was an immediate connection and we have had such fun in designing her wedding and really personalizing the details to make it unique to her and her fiance, Pedro. Throughout the planning I never felt disconnected from her or that we were that far away. She even introduced me to Skype,which is the coolest thing!

I am really excited about Jennifer and Pedro's upcoming wedding and just had to give you a sneak peak at some of the fabulous details. (more to come...)

Dog Days of Summer...

I have been inspired by the work of Jon Klassen, especially how he seamlessly combines beautiful illustrations with a sense of humor. As I was searching through his portfolio, I found one project that most certainly caught my eye, The Wurstminster Dog Show. The brainchild of the Wurst Gallery in Portland, Oregon, The Wurstminster Dog Show allowed artists the ability to celebrate our four legged friends while raising money to help those in need.

"The Wurstminster Dog Show was on February 3, 2007 at the Wurst Gallery in Portland, Oregon. Artists were invited to reserve a dog breed on a first come, first serve basis. The only requirement was the artist attempt to capture the look and spirit of their chosen breed in their own unique way. A portion of the proceeds from this show will be donated to the Dove Lewis Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon."

There have been some fabulous posts regarding "man's best friend". At the Mystic Seaport from August 28-30 they are celebrating "Dog Days". Amanda Herzberger from Orchard Cove Photography has been doing her part to help some pups get adopted by taking the most amazing portraits that will make you want to take them all home. Christine Toner from Stonington Paperie has written a beautiful and heartfelt post on her recent loss of a best friend.
