1st's.....

It's been a huge week of 1st's in the Wesson household. 1st tooth lost, 1st visit from the tooth fairy, 1st ride on a school bus and 1st day at a new school. It reminded me that even as adults, we can still have 1sts.
In the past few weeks my firsts were.. seeing a 4 " tomato caterpillar, eat a homemade, right out of the oven, blueberry pie, watch a 4" leech swim right by me, put my son on a school bus for the 1st time and not sob hysterically in front of the driver, play lacrosse with him and oh yes, finding a new species of jellyfish that mask themselves as a clear moon jelly but sting like a red jellyfish. Noticing and not taking for granted these continuous firsts, has allowed me to stay young at heart. So a huge thanks to my son who never allows life to be boring.

"The real voyage of discovery consists of not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes."
Marcel Proust

"Minor things can become moments of great revelation when encountered for the first time."
Margot Fonteyn

Sadly (or in some cases fortunately), my son will never have the following 1st's as our generation once did.
Riding a bike (without helmet), swooping down a hill
with arms stretched out
wind rushing through your hair...
or
Riding in the back of a Ford Country Squire Station Wagon..
Piles of sleeping bags and pillows...
Listening to Grease on a tape player for 8 straight hours...
Covered in blankets watching the moon follow you..
The sound of crickets and cicadas in the air...
