Tuesdays are for Mood Boards.....Vintage Stripes..

Honestly.. I'm just an old sap....Ever since I was little, I have been extremely sensitive to the five senses. No matter which of the 5 it is, I have had the ability to catalog them away in a vault and bring them up any time to take me to the place I once was. When I saw the Vintage Vogue cover, I couldn't help but be transformed immediately to my grandparent's house. Chock full of down wrapped couches, vibrant and fun fabrics, the smell of filterless camel cigarettes, wine and scotch, great stinky cheeses, coke in a glass bottle and the din of a golf game playing on the television amidst the snores from many of my relatives. The style was a combination of the 30's & 40's...Perfectly wasp with wonderful greens(she loved frogs!), robin's egg blues, corals, creams and a fabulous cherry red banister.. I remember sinking into the quilted couch (it was soft but it loved to leave summer legs with track marks), listening to the adults chatting (blah blah blah) and staring up at this amazing painting of a woman in a hat. I can't tell you how many countless hours that I stared at that woman..So the minute I saw the Vogue Cover..Kapow!! I was there. When I look at the images below..it certainly doesn't surprise me now where I got my design aesthetic from....It's been safe in the vault but sometimes it just happens to sneak out without me knowing exactly where it came from...

Interior Design Project... Gray Hardwood Floors

Day 1 before the old carpet came out.8 inch wide plank White Oak going inDeciding on the perfect stain held us up about a weekSo many choices, really hard to tell from a small square what a big room will look like
This was the winner, Fumed, Smoke
Stage 1 of the staining, after the Fumed Stain went down
Step 2, Smoke Oil being applied which really made the grain of the wood pop
Finished Floor
Our new vintage marble coffee table was the first piece of furniture back in the room

We recently had new hardwood floors put in to our house, 8 inch, wide plank, gorgeous white oak floors. We had pretty much decided that they would be stained super dark chocolate brown, not black but as close to black as you can get. We tried a bunch of different combinations of the Min Wax stains that were recommended to us and nothing was even close to what we had in our heads. So the search continued, until I discovered a store in Greenwich that sells Carlisle floors, and in the most dreamy colors (stains). But I was disappointed to learn all of the stains are customized and sold with Carlisle's floors, which for us wasn't an option because we had already bought the wood. I was beginning to get completely frustrated when the woman at the store suggested Rubio Monocoat, a stain that provided us with many different options. I was so excited to discover the product we had been searching for actually existed. While still on a mission to get the perfect chocolate brown/black color (which we did achieve) we started to consider going in a completely different direction, gray floors. Which are nearly impossible to find great pictures of online, definitely not the norm. But I loved the idea of having something totally unique. So we ordered another round of samples in which we finally discovered the perfect stain. Despite all of the negative feedback and weird looks we got from friends and family when we told them we were staining our floors gray, we are super excited with the results. What do you think?

This past week we came together to host an event on Wedding Row (104 & 110 East Main Street in Clinton, CT) with some of our favorites in the industry. The event featured a book signing and launch of Karen Bussen's latest book Simple Stunning Bride (which includes images shot at the White Dress by the Shore and a chapter written by Beth Chapman), and also kicked off a weekend trunk show and launch of Modern Trousseau's latest bridal collection, which is just absolutely gorgeous!

Some of my favorite highlights of the evening were shared with our incredible partners in hosting. A very special thanks to Karen Bussen, Modern Trousseau, Hana Floral Design, Elan Artists, Ana Parzych Custom Cakes, Given Chocolates, Bruce Plotkin Photography, Foe an American Bistro, Chamard Vineyards, The Bee and Thistle Inn, and Rentals Unlimited.

Now we are Seven....

I should have known what I was in for when you were in utero. You loved to start kicking me right as I drifted off to sleep. You absolutely loved watermelon (still do). You loved to dance to cajun music and you decided to break the rules and come out feet first like a cliff jumper.

You taught me patience, pure sweet sweet love, how to laugh at myself, forgiveness and most importantly, how to run in 3 inch heels.

You amaze me every day, you test my patience every day and you tell me " I love you so much Mama, you are so beautiful" three times a day. I am the luckiest mom in the world.

You are now seven. The world is your oyster. No more free ski lift tickets or free airline seats..you are not a baby anymore...

So happy happy birthday my sweet prince....Today is a day of celebration and lots and lots of chocolate cupcakes with swirls and twirls of chocolate frosting...Of best wishes of being such a big boy and then....falling asleep in my arms..just like in the beginning..you and me..me and you...
I love you little monster

Let your imagination grow..Chocolate & Wine..

Chocolate Creative Design loves loves loves collaboration! Chamard Vineyards has been one of our clients for about a year now and we are almost ready to unveil their brand spankin new look! This past February, Ms. True beautifully created the Roses are Red, Violets are Blue Event at Chamard. It was there, that we were able to reveal an exciting new collaboration. Chamard Vineyards, which has finally opened it's doors to host weddings with the help of True Event, has also decided to offer couples the opportunity to have custom wine labels made especially for them. Now mind you..these are not your ordinary labels. By having fun and using our imaginations, a photograph or a custom designed piece of art can bring out the real personalities of the couple......
the possibilities are absoultely endless!

Kerry & Andrew's Save the Date was used for their vineyard wedding.

One of my favorites....every woman should have a pair!!

Earlier this year, we (Chamard, True Event, Chocolate Creative Design and Anna Sawin Photography) were featured in the Spring/Summer 2010 issue of Connecticut Bride Magazine for our custom wine labels
It is just one more way to make your event more creative and personal..Isn't that what it's all about?!
