Friday Business Cards.....Saving on paper, not on design...

I absolutely love this business card created by the folks at Memac Ogilvy. Located in Beirut and Dubai, they also have one of the best designed websites around!

As much as I love letterpress, the philosophy of Chocolate Creative Design has always been that if the design is strong enough the paper shouldn't matter. I am a true believer in digital printing and I am now working with a company who uses a paper that is 100% wind power manufactured and 100% post consumer waste. Great design while saving the environment...does it get any better than that?

Friday Business Cards.....Electricity needed

It's been awhile since I have added any business cards to the blog but when I saw these I couldn't help myself!
The business card is actually a micro kit that you can put together and the LEDS light up in the dark.

"Sparkle Labs' focused mix of art, craft, and science empowers people to access and experiment with new, often inaccessible technologies."

They have this wonderful and ingenius electronics kit that not only is fun but educational to boot. Fun for adults and kids! It takes the boring out of all the science classes and allows one to be an artist of light!

Friday Business Cards.....mother & child

Trying to visually incorporate two businesses under one name is very difficult. These stunning tags were created by the folks at Aloof Design for the maternity and children's clothing store Elias & Grace. With a hint of symbolism and a dash of creativity, they have not only succeeded but have inspired.

Friday Business Cards.....green

Genius! Green with a sense of humor. This business card was created by Chad Rea. Chad Rea has been known in the design world as one of the most innovative art directors of our generation. His latest project has been the amazing website Ecopop, which successfully covers all areas of our life and how to be more eco-friendly. Bravo!
While we are on the subject of plantable paper, I just wanted to show you how easy it is to work with. My son's school, A Child's Garden Montessori was having its 25th anniversay party to raise money for the school. This is the design of the save the date for the cocktail party and live auction. It is exactly the type of project that I love to be a part of; raising money for a good organization, and doing it on a limited budget. Sounds crazy? Yes, but it brings out a certain creativity and allows me to go back to those late night art school days with Exacto knife in hand and being one with the paper.

I had just created the new logo and had stumbled upon the plantable paper. It was a perfect fit. For me, it is always a perfect fit to be able to design on a play of words. So, by using the inkjet friendly seeded paper, I was able to transform it into a coaster. The design lent itself to be both adult and child friendly. The paper was easy to work with, and printed perfectly on my little ink-jet. The difficult part, was the cutting of the circles. 200 plus!! Fortunately, it brought us all together and made for a lot of laughs.
So a huge thanks to the ladies from A Child's Garden Montessori who allowed me to make this crazy design a reality.
And to all those paper punch companies, when are you going to make a circle hole punch larger than 2.5 inches?!

Friday Business Cards.....wood

This morning, I was joyfully handed this card  by the fabulous Ms. Anna Lathrop who owns Gourmet Galley.  I have had the privilege of working on many weddings with Anna over the years.  I am so happy for her to have collaborated with another friend of ours, Christine Toner, who owns Stonington Design and Paperie, to rebrand Anna's amazing company. Christine and her sidekicks always seem to get it right.  This is a perfect example of knowing your client and producing pieces that will get you noticed. Using extra extra thick paper and letterpress printing, Christine and her crew were able to tell Anna's story.  And if you don't know Anna's story,  please check out Gourmet Galley and if you're lucky enough, a handmade scone at her kitchen table.  Bravo Ladies!!!

Friday Business Cards.....yoga

Friday morning is considered my "yoga day". Sadly, I haven't been in quite a while.

So when I saw these business cards I became inspired. For me as a graphic designer there are two important elements that inspire me: creativity and humor. Hopefully Friday business cards will do the same for you.
